Authorization

The professional qualification is a basic component for the access to the regulated profession of architect/landscape architect according to the Directive 2005/36/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on recognition of professional qualification. The authorization is the decision of the Slovak Chamber of Architects on recognition of professional qualification according to the Part three of the Law of the Slovak National Council No. 138/1992 Coll. as amended, either

  • award of professional qualification in Slovak republic or
  • the recognition of professional qualification acquired in other member state.
  1. The terms of authorization by awarding the professional qualification in the Slovak Chamber of Architects (first access to the profession after graduation of architectural training):
  • a)nationality of EU Member State; the applicant has to be a citizen of EU Member State or family member (husband/wife) of the citizen of the Member State, or has the permission for a permanent residence in Slovak Republic or has a refugee status if it arises from the international treaty which is Slovak Republic bounded by (proved by passport or identification card),
  • b)training in architecture (proved by evidence of professional qualification according to the Annex V point 5.7.1. or Annex VI of the Directive 2005/36/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council and its amendments published in Official Journal of the EU or by other evidence of formal qualification according to the Law of the Slovak National Council No. 138/1992 Coll. as amended, § 16 and if the evidence of professional qualification was awarded in other Member State it has to be supplemented by the certificate of the competent authority of home Member State),
  • c)professional experience performed after the graduation of architectural training under supervision of authorized architect in extent of not less than 3 years (proved by the logbook and portfolio), 
  • d)integrity (proved by abstract of criminal record not older than 3 months),
  • e)passing the authorization examination (examination fee 250 EUR);
  1. The terms of authorization by recognition of professional qualification acquired in other Member State:
  • a)nationality of EU Member State – the same as in point I/a) (proved by passport or identification card),
  • b)training in architecture (proved by evidence of professional qualification according the Annex V point 5.7.1. or Annex VI of the Directive 2005/36/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council and its amendments published in Official Journal of the EU or by other evidence of formal qualification according to the Law of the Slovak National Council No. 138/1992 Coll. as amended, § 16),
  • c)attestation of competence from competent authority of Member State of origin that architect who has acquired qualification fulfilling requirements of Directive 2005/36/EC when submitting his/her application is eligible for pursuit of professional practice in architecture at least for 2 years and is not disciplinary prosecuted nor he is in liquidation,
  • d)integrity (proved by abstract of criminal record as in point I/d)).

Compensation measure: If applicant for recognition of professional qualification has been recognized as an authorized architect in the Member State of recognition without professional experience or based on professional experience less than 3 years and after the authorization has not performed the profession of architect in some Member State for at least 2 years, the Slovak Chamber of Architects will apply a compensation measure – aptitude (difference) test or adaptation period under supervision of authorized architect to the total length of the professional experience of 3 years. The method of the compensation measure is chosen by the applicant.
